RECOMMENDATIONS AND CONCLUSIONS
It is essential that the City determine the immediate and future requirements of the Fair Operations and its facilities, the required size of the ice surface for a new ice pad, the future of the existing pool, the Wall of Fame and the International Hall of Fame before any final site plans are developed.
It must also be determined, if the curling club is to locate on this site and, if so, would it be integrated with the new facility or be a stand alone structure?
It is expected that this study will assist the City to make a definitive decision on the future of this site based on the options provided or optionally, should a new multi-use sports complex as outlined in Option 0 be considered.
The City must decide if the existing Memorial Centre is to be retained in initial phases and replaced in later phases with a new arena with a seating capacity of 5,000 to 7,000 capacity.
Alternatively, if the options providing this flexibility are not acceptable, is a complete new multisport facility as indicated in Option D a viable alternative?
Understanding that the site will accommodate any of these options, the City must determine if this site is the correct location for these facilities considering the site’s location, access and traffic implications.
